Pride and Prejudice

Was looking for some reivews on the newly released movie but found this instead. Reminds me of the book, "Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife" - both are fun reads for those who like knowing what happens after "happily ever after..."

Looking forward...

...to the next life stage. I don't know if I'm weird for feeling this way but most of the time, when I think about what I want to do...or when I look to see who is doing that I want to do...I always end up focusing on someone who is a life stage (or a decade in years) ahead of me.

When I was in college, I looked at the lives of those who were working. When I was working, I envied those in grad school. When I was in grad school, I couldn't wait to get out to join others who had moved on with their lives.

Why does it always seem that I need another 5 - 10 years of experience before I can do the things I want to do NOW?! And when I get to the point where I have lived those additional years, what I want to do changes into something that I can't do unless I "wait" another few years.

I just hope that there will always be that "thing" waiting for me to do at the up ahead. Otherwise, I guess I wouldn't have much to get up for in the morning.

Blogs from blogs...

This one is from Zen Kimchi. Looks interesting. Too bad that the blogger has already posted his last entry...

Food related blogs...

Going to start a collection of food-related blog links here:

First one today is about Korean food. Lots of food photos, it seems. Yumm. Not sure what the name means though.

Zen Kimchi

Okay, next, some Japanese food links...

Japanese Food 101

This one is not strictly only about Japanese food but is written in Japanese. Lots of pretty restaurant and food photos...

Bay Area

Hrmmm...don't see a good Chinese food blog but found a Taiwanese one. The food photos are a bit blurry but there are lots of descriptions of what the dishes are...Start with the one titled "Snake Soup" - enjoy!

Too many posts without food

Here are some yummy photos from a recent trip to S. Korea...

BBS Talk Decoder

Found the secret "dictionary!" It's on the front cover of the book, like the jacket said, which means that the book has no proper cover once the sleave comes off.

Skimmed the short list quickly. I guess even the Japanese needs an explanation (I'm reading the Japanese version), so I don't have a "language barrier." It's a "generation gap!" Hehe.

Here's someone's English translation based on the original online posts...

Blog spamming

Argh. I think the blog spammers have found me. Perhaps some of these comments are from genuine, real people (one can hope) but just to be sure, I am turning off anonymous commenting.

Reading new book

My book order came in today. Started reading 電車男 (Train Guy) at the gym. 45 minutes on the stationary bike breezed through like nothing - only got to the part where the main character takes his first "step" towards...a life transforming experience (not telling you what it is, in case you read it for yourself).

More about the book, or the phenomenon, shall I say, can be found (even in the English!) at Wikipedia.

*Is there a topic that the site doesn't cover?

There was a note on the book jacket (in small print, of course) that said that "If you don't understand all of the "lingo" (my translation) in the text, open up the book cover to see what they mean"...I looked and looked but found nothing. Does anyone know where the secret decoder is hidden?

For fun...

Look at these other (people) beauty obessed sites. Enjoy!

Okay. The second one is in Chinese and the third one is in Japanese. So just look at the pretty photos. Nice~

Starved...

Lately, H and I have both been obessed with the lack of beauty around us. Other than food, it seems as if all of our other senses have been neglected for a long time.

H's answer was to get buckets (okay, more like sample quarts) of paint for our "bare" walls. (So far, we've tried, "New Haven Clay, " "Sahara Sand," and "Green Garland" - all beautiful colors on people, just not on walls.)

Mine seems to be make-up. Even though like Zoolander, I only have one "look," that doesn't stop me from obsessing over colors one can splash on one's eye lids, cheeks, and lips like Stila's Golden Moon palette (top) and the Chantecaille eye shadow compacts (below).

Watched 2046

Enjoyed the film immensely.

I guess when you stop trying to analyze plots and look for coherence, the characters really do "come" to you, like what Trinh T. Minh-Ha calls catching a feather [story] by holding out your hand...

Also liked how the characters each spoke in their "natural" tongue - Japanese, Mandarin, or Cantonese. Rather than making the film feel fragmented, it gave me an odd sense of inclusion and realism...Posted by Picasa

Reasons for starting a blog

1. I've always wondered about the creative writing process and thought that this would be a "neat" place/way to do the exploration
2. I need a place to put up photos of yummy food...
